With summer and beautiful weather approaching, it’s a great time to focus on your health. Getting outside and being active can be a little easier during the summer, so it’s important to make sure your eating habits are just as beneficial! Here are some tips to help you eat healthy this summer:
Avoid sugary beverages
Although it can be refreshing to sip a lemonade or soda during warmer weather, these beverages can add up quickly when it comes to sugar. Water is always preferred, but watering down your lemonade or sipping homemade iced tea (without the sugar, of course) can be a positive first step.
Take advantage of fresh produce
With summer comes new opportunities for fresh fruits and veggies. Keep an eye out for local farmer’s markets for naturally-grown produce you can be sure is fresh and close to its natural state. You can even get firsthand advice on preparing it for a delicious, healthy meal.
Grill out
Be sure to take advantage of the beautiful weather and try grilling your meats and veggies. Grilling lean meats like skinless chicken and fish can help to reduce fat and grease because it drips off. Grilling foods like meat and veggies can help them retain their natural nutrition versus some other cooking methods, too.
Meal Planning
When we don’t have a set plan of our weekly meals, we can default to old, bad habits. Taking some time over the weekend to decide what you’ll be eating in a given week will help you have a solid path forward – and you can also prepare meals ahead of time for the week.
