It is important to stay active throughout the entire year, even when it starts to get colder. Many people lose their motivation during the winter months because it gets dark earlier, it’s cold, and it’s hard to leave the house once you are home. This has lasting results on your mental and overall health. To help our patients stay active during this time we have comprised three easy ways to exercise during the winter.
Join a Gym
During the winter doing any exercise outside feels impossible. Warm up and get active in an indoor gym. These are great alternatives to running or walking outdoors. To keep you motivated, choose a gym that is close to your home or work (or in between) so that the winter drive doesn’t keep you from going.
Exercise at Home
If you hate leaving your home and can’t stand the cold weather, find some exercises to do indoors. Buy a yoga mat, some hand weights, and make your own gym. There are so many videos and online workouts to check out that allow getting active within the comfort of your home.
Take the Stairs
One the easiest ways to sneak exercise into your day is by skipping the elevator and taking the stairs. Whether it’s in your apartment building or your office, take the stairs as much as you can. This is an awesome fat-burning workout that will help to keep your heart rate up. Even during lunch, do some laps on the stairs and get some steps in.
There are a lot of different ways to stay active when it’s cold outside. Don’t let the bad weather keep you from staying healthy and motivated.
